Audi to introduce or update 20 vehicle names by the end of 2025 Audi Thornhill.jpg

Embracing a cleaner, greener future, Audi is poised to introduce or revamp more than 20 vehicle models by the close of 2025, starting with the much-anticipated Q6 E-Tron electric compact crossover set for a late 2023 debut.

Audi will adopt a new naming strategy to avoid confusion and offer clear distinction to differentiate its electric powertrain vehicles from those featuring internal combustion engines. Audi CEO Markus Duesmann revealed during the 2022 financial results presentation that this strategy involves assigning even numbers to Audi’s electric vehicles and odd numbers to its internal combustion engine models and plug-in hybrids.

This transition process has already commenced with the mid-cycle renaming of E-Tron to Q8 E-Tron, signifying the brand's commitment to electric innovation. Similarly, Audi's forthcoming A4 redesign could adopt the A5 name, with an electric A4 E-Tron to follow.

Further tantalizing revelations from Duesmann's presentation included plans for a new EV model below the existing Q4 E-Tron. While specifics remain under wraps, the model may be an A4 E-Tron or a compact, dynamic offering such as an A2 E-Tron.

Whichever it turns out to be, it signifies Audi’s unwavering commitment to electrifying its lineup to meet the escalating demand for sustainable mobility. With its planned fleet expansion and naming transition, Audi continues to push boundaries, cementing its position as a trailblazer in the automotive industry.
